Parks & Playgrounds Explanations

Engineered Wood Fiber Surfacing

A soft manufactured wood surfacing consisting of shredded wood fiber. Conforms to critical fall height criteria and is considered handicapped accessible per ADA standards. Typically installed at 12″ over a heavy-duty filter fabric & a suitable drainage section. A good alternative to sand surfacing.

Equipment Installation & Retrofits

We work with & install many play equipment manufacturers including Playworld, Landscape Structures, & Little Tikes. If you have an existing playground, often replacement or upgrading a small component or two will bring it into compliance. We can help.

New Parks & Playgrounds

We’ve built new parks & playgrounds for many of the local cities and school districts. As engineering contractors, we offer turn-key construction from rough grading through concrete sitework, play equipment, surfacing, and landscape. We are also available to perform only one or two phases of your new construction project if more convenient.

Park & Playground Renovations

Due to constantly updated child safety & ADA regulations, the majority of our park & playground work involves renovations & upgrades of existing projects. As a NPSI Certified Playground Safety Inspector and a California Park & Recreation Society member, we stay current on new laws, regulations, & developments important to your children’s safety.

Poured-in-Place Resilient Surfacing

A troweled-on, colored EPDM granulated rubber topcoat over a shredded rubber basemat. A two application process, both courses are mixed onsite with a special urethane to bond the material together into a seamless finish product. The topcoat standard is ½″ thick and the basemat thickness varies depending on the play equipment within the fall zone area. Available in a multitude of colors, custom color blends, special designs, and logos, can be incorporated into the final product. This product must be installed only by professionals and performs best when installed over a concrete or asphalt base.

Resilient Tile Surfacing

Resilient tiles are manufactured in the factory and are available in a variety of colors and thicknesses depending on your application. Tile applications are more limited than poured-in-place due to the pre-manufactured square & rectangular shape of the tiles. Installation by professionals is recommended but not mandatory, and the tiles perform best when installed over a concrete or asphalt base.

Safety Audits

National Playground Safety Institute (NPSI) audits can be performed to identify problem areas of your playground and provide you information to bring your playground into compliance with current safety standards & regulations.

Sand Surfacing

Various types of sand are available. #20 silica sand is the standard now used by most cities & schools districts due to its non-compacting characteristics as well as its attractive white appearance. Typically installed at 12″ over a heavy-duty filter fabric & a suitable drainage section.

Site Furnishings

Precast concrete items, drinking fountains, and custom built seatwalls are just a few of the many options we offer.
